The house sits in the centre of 2 acres of grounds. Approximately
50 years ago the area was a successful smallholding supplying all
the needs for a farm worker and his family. Since then the grounds
gradually reverted to course grassland which we are now attempting
to turn into a garden and orchard. The view from the back looks
like smooth grass until you walk on it and it turns into mountains
and troughs under foot. This is being planted up with fruit and
nut trees and a vegetable plot is being developed. The ultimate
aim is to supply the house with as much home-grown fruit, salad,
herbs and vegetables as possible. We are developing hideaway areas
where you may sit and ponder the world and open areas where games
such as boules or swing ball can be played.
The top garden has been planted with fruit bushes and there is
an area of trees which provide a shaded walk on hot days. This is
our proposed fairyland wooded walk, currently under construction,
where the plants beloved by damp and shady places will flourish.
Bluebells, foxgloves and primula have been mass planted and given
time will develop into swathes of colour to delight the eye.
